Using the agent with an HTTP proxy

Last Updated: Dec 04, 2014 10:24AM EST
The Stackdriver agent sends data by pushing it to our data collection endpoints.  Since these are on the public Internet, if your instances do not have access to send data out, they will be unable to send data.  But if you have an HTTP proxy running, then that can be used as an intermediary.

To set up the agent and the extractor to use an HTTP proxy, you'll need to follow the appropriate instructions for your operating system.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS, Amazon Linux and derviatives

Edit (as root) /etc/sysconfig/stackdriver and set PROXY_URL in that file to point to your HTTP proxy

Debian, Ubuntu and derivatives

Edit (as root) /etc/defaults/stackdriver-agent and set PROXY_URL in that file to point to your HTTP proxy

Windows
Set the http_proxy environment variable [c:/> setx http_proxy <your proxy setting>]  before running the agent install.
