Process Monitoring

Last Updated: Apr 30, 2014 02:32PM EDT
Stackdriver's process monitoring allows you to see information about the processes running on a system as well as alert when a process is no longer running.  To set up process monitoring, you need to have the latest version of the Stackdriver agent and extractor (minimum versions: 5.3.0-154 and 42, respectively).  After installing and configuring your api key, ensure that both processes are running with
/etc/init.d/stackdriver-agent status
/etc/init.d/stackdriver-extractor status
With both services running, you should now be able to see a "Processes" tab on your instance details page that lists information on the processes that are running on your instance.

You can also use this information to set up an alerting policy for a resource or group of resources to alert you when a process is not running.  To do this, create an alerting policy with a condition type of process health.  After selecting the instance or instances you wish to alert on, you can provide a process name, required number of processes and the user that should be running the process.  If this condition is violated, you can choose to be notified via the same channels as for any other Stackdriver alerting policy.
